Horserides around the world

Aside from skiing, I also love horseback riding, so I thought it was time for a flashback at some nice trips I’ve been able to do.

Madagascar

Want to feel closer to Earth? Try sleeping under a mosquito net in a wooden cabin in the misty mountainous countryside of Madagascar, with the rainforest on your doorstep! You will fall asleep to the sound of frogs enjoying the rain, and wake up to the song of exotic birds, some clouds hovering over the valley, and the excitement of knowing that this could be the day that you spot your first lemur.

To get this experience, I stayed at Soa lodge in Ranomafana (reached through the website of their other properties, Soa Guest House or via Le Voyageur tour operator), together with my dear friend and long time travel companion, Jeanette.

Tsarasoa lodge is another fantastic place in “the-middle-of-nowhere”, in the Tsaranoro valley, where you can stay in one of the luxury rooms and be pampered with the combination of cosiness and a stunning view that is simply breathtaking and definitely worth the rough ride on the road coming there.

You don’t travel to Madagascar to experience five star cuisine, I think, however at the hotel Le Louvre in Antananarivo, they serve a really nice breakfast and at dinner time there is an excellent choice of courses to choose from. The things that were in my focus, were the nature experiences – meeting wild lemurs and seeing chameleons up close, trekking in fantastic landscapes as well as meeting nice and friendly people with smiles on their faces. At Le Relais de la Reine, there is horseback riding available on the premises. To go on a ride in the beautiful landscape surrounding this hidden treasure of a place is truly memorable.

Anakao Ocean Lodge is yet another place, not to be missed if venturing to Madagascar. It’s a one hour boatride from rather displeasing Tuléar, and when stepping onto the beach outside the main building it’s literally like taking a step into paradise. Beautiful bungalows right on the beach, very attentive staff, yummie food, and simply very relaxing.

Inhale, exhale, and forget about time.
